A late nineteenth-century French reissue of Pierre de Marca's regional history of Béarn, edited by the abbé Victor Dubarat and published in 1894 with added engravings, a life of Marca, a genealogy and a bibliography, for local historians and antiquarian readers. The plates shown are wide engraved headbands in a Renaissance revival manner: symmetrical scrollwork with grotesque masks, winged dragons, standing figures and armorial shields, drawn in fine grey line and usable as rules, chapter openers or repeating border units.
