Frederick Marryat's 1837 naval novel of the Dutch-English fleet under William III, reissued by Macmillan in London in 1897 with an introduction by David Hannay and forty pen-and-ink plates by H. R. Millar for a general reading public. The drawings are captioned full-page line work in open hatching: tricorn hats, skirted coats and jackboots, drawn swords, deck fights and tavern doorways, useful for period costume figures, gesture studies and uncluttered black-line silhouettes.
