A collection of short stories about China, written by L. T. Meade with the British Museum orientalist Robert K. Douglas and published in London by Wells Gardner in 1897 for young readers. The pictures in the index are repeats of one printers' ornament: a cross-shaped headpiece of palmette foliage in quatrefoil compartments, line-engraved in black, usable as a rule, divider or cartouche.
