Histoire de France. Deuxième édition
Jules Michelet's Histoire de France in its second edition of 1876, a multi-volume narrative history for general French readers, illustrated with wood-engraved plates and vignettes by the Spanish draughtsman Daniel Urrabieta Vierge. The hundred images run from sparse pen-line landscapes to dense crowd scenes — street riots, soldiers at a city gate, costumed figures talking in gardens — and offer designers loose hatched figure groups, period dress, and open-margin vignettes that sit well as chapter headpieces.
