Jules Michelet's Histoire de France in its 1876 second edition, a French popular history for general readers, illustrated by the Spanish draughtsman Daniel Urrabieta Vierge and cut as wood engravings in Paris. The plates are loose, heavily shaded chapter headpieces and vignettes of medieval processions, court receptions and battle aftermath, plus arranged piles of helmets, banners and swords; useful for sketchy crowd silhouettes, arched framing shapes and armour props.
