Histoire de France. Deuxième édition
A second edition of Jules Michelet's narrative Histoire de France, published in Paris in 1876 with wood-engraved illustrations by the Spanish-born draughtsman Daniel Urrabieta Vierge, aimed at general French readers of national history. The plates mix circular vignettes of scholars and scribes, loose sketched views of towns, gates and country lanes, and wide horizontal bands of camps, processions and battles, offering designers roundel framing devices, hatched landscape backgrounds and crowd scenes in strip format.
