Jules Michelet's multi-volume history of the French Revolution, issued in an illustrated French edition of 1887 for general readers. The plates are light pen-and-ink vignettes framed as ovals and arches: trophies of arms with heraldic shields and skulls, a bottle and glass with hat and gloves on a table, a speaker at a draped tribune before a crowd, and an empty village yard with a cart — usable as chapter headpieces, tailpieces, and framed spot illustrations.
