A Victorian anthology of historical episodes from the Reformation to the French Revolution, compiled from standard authors by Ascott Robert Hope Moncrieff and published in London in 1875 for general and younger readers. The illustrations here are repeated line-engraved ornaments: a symmetrical foliate roundel with two facing doves, flanked by acanthus scrolls and buds, printed as thin open outline against white, usable as headpieces, dividers, or tracing stock for monogram frames.
