Scenes from our Century, selected from the works of standard historians, etc
A compilation of British historical episodes drawn from standard historians, edited by Ascott Robert Hope Moncrieff and published in London by Charles & Co. in 1887 for general and younger readers. The plates are tonal wood engravings of nineteenth-century military set pieces — Nelson dying below decks, cavalry colliding in smoke, troops massed in a courtyard, a bombarded harbour — useful for crowd groupings and dark-to-pale atmospheric shading.
