The Ancestral Homes of Britain; containing examples of its noblest castles, halls, and mansions. With ... coloured illustrations ... and biographical and historical notices
A Victorian survey of British country houses compiled by the Yorkshire clergyman-naturalist Francis Orpen Morris, published in London in 1868 with colour plates and short historical and genealogical notes for gentry and armchair tourists. The 43 chromolithographs show castles, halls and manors from the middle distance across mown lawns and parkland, in pale greens, cream skies and soft greys, with framing cedars, grazing deer and long gravel drives — useful for architectural silhouettes, tree masses and flat pastel landscape grounds.
