Viaggio antiquario ne'contorni di Roma
Antonio Nibby's two-volume antiquarian itinerary through the countryside around Rome, published in 1819 for travellers, collectors and students of Roman topography, with small etched plates captioned in Italian and French. The plates are horizontal landscape views printed sideways on the page: hilltop citadels, aqueduct arches and the ruins of Villa Adriana set among loosely hatched trees, rock faces and open unworked skies, useful for line-etched scenery, ruin silhouettes and foliage textures.
