The Twins of Saint-Marcel. A tale of Paris Incendié
A novel for young readers by Mrs Alexander S. Orr, published in London in 1872, following two children through the burning of Paris during the Commune. The wood-engraved plates pair domestic interiors and embracing figures in crinolines and shawls with street crowds, a released dove, and torch-lit arson before flaming buildings, giving designers captioned figure groups, period dress, and fire-and-smoke backdrops rendered in fine line.
