A Treatise on Metallurgy; comprising mining, and general and particular metallurgical operations, etc
Frederick Overman's treatise on metallurgy, reissued by Appleton & Co. in 1880 as a working manual for miners, furnace men and ironworks engineers. The 256 numbered wood-engraved figures are mostly cut-away sections and plans of furnaces, hearths and rolling mills, with stippled brick and stone coursing, hatched firebrick linings, stacks, and swirling flame drawn as looping contour lines — a ready supply of industrial cross-section diagrams and masonry textures.
