Friend or Fortune? The story of a strange year, etc
A late-Victorian popular novel by the miscellaneous writer Robert Overton, published in London by Jarrold & Sons in 1897 for general circulating-library readers. The plates here are printer's ornaments rather than scenes: inverted triangular tailpieces filled with white foliage, rosettes and dotted grounds reserved out of dense black, useful as chapter-end stops, corner fills or repeat motifs.
