A four-volume scholarly edition of Thomas Paine's collected writings, edited by Moncure Daniel Conway and issued by G. P. Putnam's Sons in 1894 for readers of political history. The thirteen pictures are line-engraved printer's ornaments: symmetrical strapwork cartouches, foliate scroll tailpieces with paired birds, and fine-hatched star and rosette motifs usable as dividers, spot marks, and frame elements.
