Pictorial Journey through the Holy Land; or, Scenes in Palestine. [Reprinted from the “Sunday at Home.”
A popular account of Palestine reprinted from the Religious Tract Society's magazine "Sunday at Home" and published in London in 1863 for British Sunday readers. The 39 plates are full-page wood engravings of biblical sites — Hebron, Shiloh, Nablus, Jerusalem, aqueducts and hill towns — built from fine parallel hatching, with pale skies, dark foreground trees and small figures on ridges; useful for landscape textures, terraced hillside silhouettes and vignetted horizon lines.
