Peter Simon Pallas's account of his 1793–94 journey through Crimea, the Caucasus and the southern Russian steppe, translated by Francis William Blagdon and issued in London in 1812 for British readers of scientific travel. The plates are outline etchings inside ruled double borders: wide steppe and mountain panoramas, riverside settlements, timber works, grazing herds and tiny staffage figures, useful for sparse horizon lines and framing rules.
