A French travel narrative of Rome and southern Italy, written as artistic and literary studies from an 1866-67 journey by Léon Palustre de Montifaut and published in 1868 for educated French readers. The plates are repeated line-engraved tailpieces: an open book on a lectern set in symmetrical acanthus scrollwork above a shield bearing crossed keys, ending in a dotted swag and pendant tassel; usable as chapter ends, crests and border motifs.
