A one-volume narrative history of the United States from the first European landings to 1876 by Jacob Harris Patton, issued in London by Sonnenschein & Co. in 1887 for general readers. The plates are steel-engraved head-and-shoulders portraits of colonial and revolutionary figures, set in oval or circular vignettes inside ruled borders with engraved facsimile signatures below, useful for period frames, hatched shading and autograph lettering.
