Melincourt, or Sir Oran Haut-Ton ... With an introduction by George Saintsbury
An 1896 London and New York reissue of Thomas Love Peacock's 1817 satirical novel Melincourt, introduced by George Saintsbury and illustrated by Frederick Henry Townsend for late-Victorian readers of reprinted English fiction. Townsend's pen-and-ink plates place Regency figures in top hats, tailcoats and bonnets within drawing rooms, doorways and shrubbery, each captioned with a line of dialogue and drawn in loose hatching that leaves wide areas of white page.
