John Percy's multi-volume treatise on metallurgy, published in London from 1861 for metallurgists, furnace builders and manufacturing engineers. The plates are line-engraved sections and plans of furnaces, retorts, crucibles and casting apparatus, with lettered callouts, scale bars and dense hatching for brickwork and earth, useful as technical diagram vocabulary and cutaway conventions.
