Russian Travellers in Mongolia and China ... Translated by J. Gordon-Cumming. [An abridged translation
An abridged English translation by Jane Eliza Gordon-Cumming of Pavel Yakovlevich Pyasetsky's account of a Russian expedition across Mongolia and China, issued in London by Chapman & Hall in 1884 for British readers of travel and exploration narratives. The 37 wood engravings, worked up from the traveller's own sketches, show quays and stilt-built houses along river banks, processions with parasols and mounted escorts, village brawls, and wide hazy landscapes with tonal skies and small figure groups useful for crowd silhouettes and vernacular architecture.
