RECLUS, Élisée. · 1868 · 224 pictures

Élisée Reclus's La Terre is a two-volume French physical geography treatise of 1868, written for general educated readers and illustrated with figures drawn by A. Vuillemin and E. Guillemin and engraved by Erhard. The plates are small line-engraved maps: coastlines built from fine hachures and stipple, seabeds filled with depth soundings in metres, crescent dune fields, and continental charts overlaid with labelled limit-lines for holly, ash and beech.
