Lucian Reich's account of village life in the Baar and Black Forest, drawn by him and put on stone by J. N. Heinemann, issued in Germany in 1885 for readers with an interest in regional folk custom. Each plate is a fine-lined lithograph of peasants at a cottage, a forest fire, a goose pond or a roadside rest, set inside a ruled ornamental border with a scrolled cartouche carrying a dialect verse; useful for foliate frames, caption scrolls and crowded rustic genre groups.
