A frontier adventure novel by Mayne Reid, set on the Llano Estacado and published in London in 1871 for readers of popular fiction. The scanned plates are a repeated wood-engraved chapter ornament: a symmetrical triangular sprig of buttercup with deeply cut palmate leaves and four open blooms, drawn in fine black outline on cream paper, useful as a tailpiece, divider or spot motif.
