Ellen Percy: or, the Memoirs of an Actress
A serial sensation novel by G. W. M. Reynolds, published in London in 1856 for the mass penny-part readership that followed his weekly fiction. Wood-engraved half-page scenes set figures in mid-Victorian drawing rooms and libraries — women in wide crinolines and off-shoulder gowns confronting men in tailcoats, with chandeliers, statues, mantel clocks and upholstered furniture behind them; useful for period costume, interior fittings, and staged two-figure confrontations dropped into letterpress columns.
