The Mysteries of the Court of London ... With ... illustrations
G. W. M. Reynolds's serialized penny novel of aristocratic scandal and crime, issued in London by John Dicks in 1849 for a mass weekly readership. Wood-engraved half-page scenes set melodrama in drawn rooms: swagged curtains, framed pictures, ornate mantels and sofas, with clustered figures seizing, embracing, fainting or dancing, plus vaulted cellars — useful for period interiors, costume and staged figure groups.
