The Mysteries of the Court of London ... With ... illustrations
Volumes of G. W. M. Reynolds's serial sensation novel The Mysteries of the Court of London, issued by John Dicks in London in 1849 for a mass penny-fiction readership. The wood engravings are small text-page vignettes of interior confrontations: crinolined women, men in checked trousers and frock coats, servants, and furnished parlours with mirrors, side tables, drapery and framed portraits, useful for period costume silhouettes and domestic-interior props.
