A Civil War memoir by Albert Gallatin Riddle, an Ohio congressman recalling Washington politics and personalities of 1860-1865, published by G. P. Putnam's Sons in New York in 1895 for a general American readership. The plates here are not scenes but printer's ornaments: symmetrical foliate headpieces, tailpieces and narrow rules in fine line engraving, usable as chapter dividers, section marks and title-page furniture.
