Turner, J. M. W. (Joseph Mallord William), RITCHIE, Leitch. · 1887 · J. S. Virtue & Co. · 58 pictures

A late-Victorian reissue (J. S. Virtue, London, 1887) of steel engravings after J. M. W. Turner's Seine and Loire views, with text by Leitch Ritchie, an introduction by Ruskin, and a life of the artist by A. A. Watts. The sixty plates are pale, fine-line landscapes of quays, bridges, shipping and hilltop towns, useful for atmospheric gradients, distant architectural silhouettes and small figure groups.
