A Victorian historical romance set in Tudor London, written by George Herbert Buonaparte Rodwell and illustrated by Alfred Ashley, published in London in 1848 for a general readership of serial fiction. The 25 plates are dense wood-engraved crowd scenes — cellar interiors, riverside rescues, mob assaults — with deep shadow, oval vignette borders and captions engraved in the plate.
