Westmorland, Cumberland, Durham, and Northumberland, illustrated from original drawings by T. Allom, G. Pickering, &c. With descriptions by T. Rose
A topographical survey of the four northern English counties, with steel engravings after drawings by Thomas Allom and George Pickering and text by Thomas Rose, issued in London in 1858 for armchair travellers and tourists. The plates are wide landscape views — lakes seen from above, mountain ridges, viaducts, castles and small figures on foreground rocks — offering layered aerial perspective, soft tonal gradients and framing foliage.
