Inside Out Library

A round of days described in original poems by some of our most celebrated poets, and in pictures by eminent artists engraved by the Brothers Dalziel

1866 · 71 pictures

An illustrated gift anthology of new poems by Victorian writers, published in London in 1866 with wood engravings cut by the Brothers Dalziel after designs by artists of the 1860s school, aimed at middle-class parlour readers. The plates are dense black-line landscapes and rural figure scenes — courting couples in tall grass, a woman walking into snow, willows over still water — useful for hatching textures, silhouetted figures against open sky, and period dress.
