A history of the Sussex country house Cowdray, written by Julia Roundell and issued by Bickers & Son in London in 1884 for antiquarian and country-house readers. The plates reproduced here are narrow horizontal chapter-head panels drawn in fine outline: symmetrical scrolling foliage flanking a central urn or fountain, with poppies, clover, holly, bees and confronted birds, ready for use as rules, headers or borders.
