Who Fired the First Shot? or, Ned Rusheen. An Irish story
An Irish novel, "Who Fired the First Shot? or, Ned Rusheen," published by Gill & Son in Dublin in 1883 for a general reading public. The plates here are repeated wood-engraved headpieces printed in blue and black: horizontal panels with clipped corners, scrolling acanthus and thistle foliage flanking a central roundel holding a harp-playing angel, a bird among branches, or a five-petalled rose, useful as chapter rules, cartouches, and symmetrical border units.
