The Prince of Wales' Tour: a diary in India; with some account of the visits ... to the Courts of Greece, Egypt, Spain, and Portugal ... With illustrations by S. P. Hall
William Howard Russell's day-by-day account of the Prince of Wales's 1875-76 journey through India, Greece, Egypt, Spain and Portugal, published in London in 1877 with plates after the travelling artist Sydney Prior Hall, for British readers following royal progress abroad. The wood-engraved plates work from on-the-spot sketches: dense processions, elephant-back shooting parties, ceremonial receptions and long rows of standing dignitaries, rendered in close grey hatching useful for crowd silhouettes and massed-figure compositions.
