Catherine Cuthbertson's sentimental romance Santo Sebastiano, or the Heiress of Montalvan, reissued with wood-engraved illustrations by W. Caffyn in London, 1847, for buyers of cheap popular fiction. Small vignettes sit inside the text columns: two to four figures in bonnets, long skirts, tailcoats and top hats, greeting or conferring in doorways and parlours, with oval hatched grounds useful for figure groups and shading textures.
