Ethiopi oriental
A Portuguese edition of Friar João dos Santos's sixteenth-century account of East Africa, issued in Lisbon in 1891 as volume one of Mello d'Azevedo's Bibliotheca de Classicos Portuguezes for scholars and general readers. The single indexed image is the printed paper wrapper: a ruled border enclosing stacked lines of letterpress in mixed serif, condensed and shaded display faces, useful for period title-page layout, rule work and typographic hierarchy.
