The Poor Clerk and his Crooked Sixpence
A moral tale for young readers by George Eliel Sargent, published in London by the Religious Tract Society in 1874. The 48 plates are engraved chapter headpieces: symmetrical spans of foliage, roses, honeysuckle and ivy twined over lattice, scrollwork and trellis, with an open book or cartouche at the centre — line ornament for headers, dividers and framing devices.
