Old Mortality ... With sixteen illustrations by Sidney Paget
An 1898 Service & Paton edition of Walter Scott's Covenanter novel Old Mortality, illustrated with sixteen plates by Sidney Paget for late-Victorian readers of cheap illustrated classics. The pen-and-ink plates show armed men in broad-brimmed hats, interrogations at tables and doorway partings, drawn with dense diagonal hatching that turns backgrounds into flat grey tone useful for silhouetted figure groups.
