Historical, legendary, and romantic Tales from the works of Sir Walter Scott. Selected ... by W. T. Dobson. With ... illustrations, etc
An 1886 London anthology, edited by W. T. Dobson for Bickers & Son, gathering historical and romantic tales excerpted from Walter Scott for general Victorian readers. The plates are tonal monochrome reproductions of narrative history paintings: massed costumed crowds, cavalry and fallen bodies on open battlefields, coach ambushes and interior confrontations, all set under broad clouded skies with soft grey washes and deep shadow useful for figure-group compositions and period dress reference.
