Seduction; or the perils of a woman's life. A romance
An anonymous melodramatic romance issued in London in 1846 for the cheap serial-fiction market, telling a tale of abduction, murder and ruined virtue. The wood engravings sit inset in the text, showing eighteenth-century costume — tricorn hats, hooped skirts, frock coats — in cramped interiors of fainting women, raised fists and crowded inn parlours, with heavy cross-hatched shadow useful for silhouette and period figure work.
