The History of the County of Monaghan
Evelyn Philip Shirley's antiquarian history of County Monaghan, published in London by Pickering & Co. in 1879 for genealogists and the county's landed families. The plates are outline drawings of heraldic shields, many topped with peers' coronets and each followed by its blazon in italic letterpress, giving designers clean single-weight silhouettes of charges such as roundels, martlets, escallops, thistle leaves and floral chaplets.
