The adventures of Mr. Ledbury and his friend Jack Johnson ... With eighteen illustrations by John Leech
A comic novel of English middle-class mishaps by Albert Richard Smith, illustrated with eighteen etchings by John Leech and reissued in London by Richard Bentley & Son in 1886 for readers of light serial fiction. The plates are soft grey etchings set in oval or arched vignettes, mostly crowded parlour and dance-party interiors with gas chandeliers, crinolined women and men in tailcoats sprawling or scuffling, each signed with Leech's small monogram and captioned in script below; useful for period costume crowds, vignette framing shapes, and figures caught mid-fall.
