The Struggles and Adventures of Christopher Tadpole at home and abroad. Illustrated by Leech
A comic picaresque novel by Albert Richard Smith, published in London in 1864 with etched plates by John Leech, the Punch caricaturist, for Victorian middle-class readers. The plates are vignette-shaped etchings of crowded parlours, inns, shops and roadsides, with top hats, crinolines, dogs and clutter on the walls, useful for cross-hatched interior texture and stock comic figure types.
