The Struggle and Adventures of Christopher Tadpole ... With 26 etchings by J. Leech, and a biographical sketch of the author [by Edmund Yates
A comic Victorian novel by Albert Smith, reissued by Downey & Co. in London in 1897 with 26 etchings by Punch artist John Leech and a biographical sketch by Edmund Yates, aimed at general readers of serial fiction. The plates are soft-edged vignettes with ragged cross-hatched borders, showing crowded low-ceilinged interiors, tavern parlours, tailors' and workshops, top-hatted men and crinolined women, useful for period costume, cluttered room detail and irregular vignette framing.
