His Great Experiment
A late Victorian novel by William Anderson Smith, published by Maclaren & Sons in 1889 for the general circulating-library reader. The seven images are decorative headpieces and tailpieces in fine pen hatching: a swallow skimming water inside a circular medallion flanked by sprays of five-petalled blossom and pointed leaves, plus small standalone blossom clusters with buds and stamens, usable as chapter ornaments, rules and spot motifs.
