Exiles of Fortune. A tale of a far north land
A boys' adventure novel by Gordon Stables, published in London by Shaw & Co. in 1890, following English characters into Arctic waters and back to drawing-room scenes at home. The twelve wood-engraved plates carry quoted captions with page references and range from a polar bear family on ice floes to sailors slumped in ship's rigging, a thrown rider on a woodland road, and a lamplit parlour of standing women — useful for narrative figure groups, rigging and ice textures, and period dress.
