Hearts of Oak. A story of Nelson and the Navy
A juvenile naval adventure novel by Gordon Stables, published by Shaw and Co. in London in 1893 for boy readers of Nelson-era sea stories. The plates here are line-drawn decorated initials, each a bordered panel pairing a capital letter with a single flowering stem — daisy, hawthorn, anemone — drawn in even outline with scattered dots and beaded or zigzag frames, usable as drop caps, spot ornaments or border patterns.
