Bilder aus Elsass Lothringen. Original-Zeichnungen von R. Assmus ... Schilderungen von K. S
A German illustrated survey of Alsace-Lorraine published in 1876, with original drawings by Rudolf Assmus and descriptive text by Karl Stieler, issued for German readers soon after the provinces were annexed following the Franco-Prussian War. The wood engravings show Gothic church choirs and spires seen through screens of trees, shelled houses and rubble-filled village streets, roadside chapels, and smoking towns viewed from a distance, offering designers vignette landscapes, architectural silhouettes, and ruin studies in fine grey line.
